A media buying service just started buying radio stations.
JAM Media Solutions – led by Jonathan A. Mason Sr. – says it “initially began as a strategic media planning and buying agency.” But has now “ventured outside of its media-buying roots into radio broadcast ownership.” Its first two acquisitions are 1,100 miles apart, and they’re very different markets. (Though both clusters share the similarity of having associated “online newspapers,” which may be part of the attraction for Mason). The deals are on North Carolina’s Outer Banks, and well inland, along the Mississippi River, in Muscatine, Iowa. Could radio use more “non-traditional” station buyers? You bet. And Mr. Mason (also “Pastor Mason,” of Northeast Baptist Church, and the supporter of a school in Ghana) is an interesting fellow.
